Original: The Beacontown Fire Department responded to a call around 2 a.m. Wednesday of a potential fire in the area of Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Chief’s Car 6, Pumper Truck 5, Engine Company 8 and other support vehicles responded as a result. Firefighters arrived at 1002 N. Fifth Ave. to find the one-story, three-bedroom home fully enveloped in flames. The homeowners, Wendy Walther and Zeke Walther, were outside of the home, as was their daughter, Fiona. No one was left inside. Nobody was injured.

Firefighters deployed several hose lines and fought the blaze for five hours until getting full control of the situation. Two fire marshals eventually were able to enter the remains of the home to determine the cause of the blaze. They stated that the fire began when a space heater tipped over in the living room and ignited a couch. The fire then spread along the room’s ceiling, which consisted mostly of very old wood.

The cause of the fire was eventually ruled to be a fallen space heater which was only accelerated by old wood within the home’s foundation.  The homeowners Wendy and Zeke Walther as well as their daughter Fiona were outside of the home when the Beacontown Firefighters arrived.
